Throughout the month of November, Catholics dedicate themselves to praying for those that have departed from this life – our family, friends and loved ones – and for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches us that prayer for the dead is one of the spiritual works of mercy.

The month begins with the celebration of All Saints Day on Saturday, November 1st. On this day, Catholics celebrate all the saints, known and unknown. It is an old feast that arose out of the Christian tradition of celebrating the martyrdom of saints on the anniversary of their martyrdom. When martyrdoms increased during the persecutions of the late Roman Empire, local dioceses instituted a common feast day in order to ensure that all martyrs, known and unknown, were properly honored. It was later extended to the entire Church.
The Parish will celebrate All Saints Day on Saturday, November 1st
