Franciscan Jubilee Year 2026

During the Extraordinary Franciscan Jubilee Year, a plenary indulgence is available to the
faithful from January 10, 2026, to January 10, 2027, marking the 800th anniversary of the death (Transitus) of St. Francis of Assisi.
How to Receive the Plenary Indulgence
To obtain the indulgence, the faithful must fulfill the usual conditions, together with specific jubilee acts:
Standard Conditions:
Sacramental Confession
Eucharistic Communion
Prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father
Total detachment from all sin, even venial
Jubilee Requirements:
Pilgrimage or Visit - Visit any church or chapel served by the Franciscan family, including: Friars Minor, Capuchins, Conventual Franciscans, Poor Clares, Secular Franciscans.
Devotion - Participate in an official Jubilee celebration or spend time in pious meditation or charitable works.
Prayers - Recite: The Our Father, The Creed, Invocations to St. Francis of Assisi
For the Homebound and Impeded:
Those who are elderly, ill, or otherwise unable to travel may still obtain the indulgence by:
Uniting themselves spiritually to the Jubilee celebrations offering their prayers, sufferings, and daily sacrifices to God
Pastoral Encouragement - The Apostolic Penitentiary strongly encourages priests to make themselves readily available for the Sacrament of Reconciliation throughout the Jubilee Year.
